Lieven Hendriks (born 1970 in Velp, NL) lives and works in Arnhem, NL. From 1991 to 1996 he studied at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht and De Ateliers in Amsterdam. He has been involved in numerous group exhibitions since the mid-1990s.

The artist himself says of his art: “I always try to find a way of painting that more or less corresponds to what I want to show.” Lieven Hendriks’ “deceptively real” painting results from the broad and profound examination of the painting itself. Against the background of self-referentiality, it appears both consistent and contemporary at the same time. It is consistent in its stance not to establish an illusory world that lies outside of painting. His art is contemporary because in the digital age it calls to mind something that is increasingly being forgotten: that the modes of simulation – be they painterly or multimedia, analog or digital – by no means always have to obey a higher end as a means, but rather one deserve reflective interaction.
