Rebecca Salter

Rebecca Salter, born in Sussex in 1955, is a British painter and printmaker. In addition to her work as a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, she regularly presents her own work, for example in 2011 in the extensive exhibition “into the light of things”. This retrospective took place at the Yale Center for British Art in Connecticut with a selection of her works from several decades.

Each of her works is the result of an experimental and time-consuming process when working with paper. In doing so, she deals with various techniques. It punches, prints, folds, and burns. In the works exhibited in the Michael Sturm gallery, the focus is on the medium of paper. The material not only serves as a support for the work but also becomes an actively shaping component through Salter’s processing.

Rebecca Salter has been the new President of the Royal Academy of Arts since 2020, the first woman in the 250-year history of the London Academy.
