Fernando García Correa (Mexico City, *1958) studied painting and sculpturing, first in Mexico at the „La Esmeralda University“ and then in Paris, where he graduated with a diploma in drawing with distinction at the „École des Beaux-Arts“. His work, which is present in public and private collections in Mexico and around the globe, has received awards like the Acquisition Award at the XII Bienal Rufino Tamayo in 2006, the Pollock – Krasner Foundation grant in 2010, and the National System of Creators grant in 2005, 2010 and 2015. Fernando García Correa lives and works in Mexico City.

Already during his studies, Correa dedicated his work to abstraction. Therefore his artworks are a confrontation with the traditions of conceptional art and a reflection of its potential. Though the artist usually works with series, he still pictures them as incomplete entities and a pool of which new pieces can be generated at any time. Correa describes his work as cyclical, as a continuum. Cross references result from the artistic process, in which he pauses, comes back, tries to build distance to his creations, to form an openness, that expresses itself through the variety of his artwork.

Connections between pieces from one or several series develop through reviving selected elements, materials, and compositions.

In his series „Gambetas Y Concresiones“ Correa works with dried acrylic shapes that arise from a paint palette. The artist then applies these hardened organic forms on his paper works, which oscillate between drawing and painting. Over time the relation between carrier and material will be explored during the artistic process, which creates a network, that expands steadily.
