On the occasion of this year’s Art Alarm, Galerie Michael Sturm is presenting works by the Swiss artist Dave Bopp for the second time, as well as an extensive installation by the Akademie Schloss Solitude scholarship holder Anna Kubelik for the first time.

Through the interplay of analog and digital techniques, Dave Bopp (* 1988, Basel / CH) succeeds in generating the forms and contents of his painting in the process. An important aspect is to initiate dynamics of its own. Dave Bopp’s works are created on the floor of his studio, where he experiments with acrylic resin varnish on aluminum composite panels. In the act of painting, however, action and reaction are not intuitively linked; a computer is interposed, which becomes the artist’s accomplice in the creation of the image. The resulting abstract visual worlds are reminiscent of floral motifs, wild thickets, or even open up a view into a jungle of images, as in the works TEPY and NIQA of the current exhibition DAMAGE THRESHOLD. The multi-layered application of paint requires both insights and overlays and thus dynamizes the image space, which both visually challenges and overwhelms us.

Space is also an important dimension in the work of the architect and artist Anna Kubelik (* 1980, Lucerne / CH). The focus of her exhibition DICTUM OF NATURE in the Michael Sturm gallery is the space-consuming, moving iteration installation of the same name. The basis for this was the examination of physical knowledge about the “amplituhedron” from a study by Nima Arkani-Hamed and Jaroslav Trnka from 2015 and the discovery of the “eversion” by Paul Schatz in 1929. During the exhibition, “Dictum of Nature” will appear at certain times brought to life by dancers. The movements triggered in this way cause sounds, as it were, caused by sensors that react to the various spatial axes and thus enable a synaesthetic space-sound experience. The performance DICTUM OF NATURE is a collaboration with Akemi Nagao (choreography) and Michael Tuttle (sound). At the same time, a presentation of further works will take place in the Akademie Schloss Solitude. (Opening 14.09., Exhibition duration 15.09.-29.10.)
